STRIKE VOTE PASSES BY HUGE MARGIN
Members at IAMAW Local Lodges W349, W401 and W475 voted by a huge margin to strike Georgia-Pacific. This follows an earlier rejection of the company’s “Last, Best and Final” offer. Major problems were the company’s unethical and probably illegal attempt to bargain directly with certain influential workers, the lack of wage increases for 2 years, and GP’s attempt to split the workers with 2 different offers at the same time – neither of them any good, but designed to appeal to different segments of the population. Workers stood together and told G-P management to “BUTT OUT” of their decision. Ken Harrison, G-P’s Vice President and chief negotiator has been notified of the vote and advised that the IAM stands ready to negotiate a fair contract. Federal Mediator Sherman Bolden has been notified, and is trying to schedule a meeting between the parties.

G-P (KOCH) ETHICS?
Not long after Koch bought G-P, all employees received a copy of the new G-P CODE OF CONDUCT. The book talks about integrity, ethics and doing the right thing. Let’s examine their conduct:

1. What’s ethical about a G-P Area Manager dealing one-on-one with workers and trying to mislead
them? It’s a violation of law! The IAM has filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board.

2. What’s ethical about trying to pit older workers against younger?

3. What’s ethical dumping older workers without any affordable healthcare when they get sick and
need to retire? A 40 year employee at age 62 would not get enough retirement to pay his G-P Plan
insurance premium! Medicare is not available until at least age 65. ETHICS???

4. What’s ethical about G-P’s Trustee on the Nelson Trust trying to undermine the plan he is sworn to
protect? Experts agree that the Nelson Trust will not need further increases before 2010.
