G-P FINAL PROPOSAL IMPOSSIBLE!

Negotiators representing Georgia-Pacific and IAM locals W349, W401 and W475 met Monday and Tuesday in Memphis. At the end of the day Tuesday, G-P’s negotiators presented a proposal called it’s “Last, Best and Final” offer. We believe the proposal may be illegal, and is certainly unethical. G-P has the legal obligation of negotiating with the IAMAW to impasse, then presenting its final offer for the union’s acceptance or rejection. This proposal is 2 different ones, presenting an either/or and possibly neither situation. To make it worse, neither proposal is anywhere near good enough!
The proposal would be almost impossible to vote. We are requesting a Federal Mediator’s involvement to get the parties back to the negotiating table. We will issue a new BARGAINING UPDATE as soon as we have further information.

   4 YEARS, $200 1st YEAR, NOTHING 2nd YEAR, 2.5% 3rd YEAR AND 2.5% 4th YEAR
    NELSON TRUST INSURANCE
    PENSION INCREASE $1 EACH YEAR

“OFFER B”
    4 YEARS, 2.5% RAISE EACH YEAR
    G-P INSURANCE – HIGHER DEDUCTIBLES AND CO-PAY, YOU PAY 20% OF THE PREMIUM
INCLUDING ANY INCREASES, YOU GET BACK THE 94 CENTS YOU PAY FOR NELSON TRUST
    PENSION INCREASE $1 EACH YEAR
