THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER FOR YOUR HEALTHCARE?
Negotiators representing Georgia-Pacific and IAM locals W349, W401 and
W475 met last Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday in Memphis. Negotiations are proceeding at a
snails pace due to GP proposals that we simply can not live with. You
are being told that you can get the $0.94 per hour back that you are now
paying for your Nelson Trust insurance. All you have to do is agree to
switch to the GP insurance plan and start paying $236.40 per month
(family option) on the premium. Of course, deductibles and co-pays also
more than double so when you are sick, you get an even worse whammy! I
bet they didn’t tell you that the GP plan does not allow coverage when
you retire at any cost. The GP plan has a lot lower benefits in many
areas.
This is especially bad faith on management’s part. When we settled the
last time, GP negotiators claimed that it was GP policy for employees to
pay 20% of the plan they are in. That’s what we are doing! Now they want
the 20% plus the difference in cost between the Nelson Trust and a sorry
plan.
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!
LANGUAGE CHANGES IMPOSSIBLE
Crossett management continues to propose several changes that are
killers to getting a contract. Some of them are:
No overtime pay over 8 if you have any absence that week for any
reason.
No guarantee of a job when you return from a sick or accident leave
even if they grant a leave of
absence!
No extra day off when Christmas Eve , Christmas Day or July 4th comes
during your vacation.
Take away your right to strike if GP breaks the law, refuses to
negotiate or for any other good
reason.
Several other proposals that are just as bad or worse.
